Paul Steinberg, MD, has survived metastatic prostate cancer possibly longer than any other man in history. He is a frequent contributor to the New York Times and Washington Post. He practices in Washington, DC, where he lives with his wife, Helen.

Surprise!

Although it started out as expected, a story about prostate cancer survival, then it turned into a philosophical diatribe that meandered like a driverless motorcycle and ended in a ditch-namely my garbage. I didn't expect to hear why religion is the problem and why we are in trouble as a world according to the author.

Two kinds of courage

It takes one kind of courage to fight cancer for 30 years. It takes another entirely different kind of courage and wisdom to make love as important as survival for 30 years, not be distracted by the shadows of mortality or the indignities of treatment This book is inspiring on both levels.
