About the Author
Priyanka Aggarwal is a researcher in the Department of Geomatics Engineering at the University of Calgary, where she received her M.Sc. in electrical and computer engineering and a Ph.D. in INS/GPS Integration. Naser El-Sheimy is professor in the Department of Geomatics Engineering at the University of Calgary. He received his Ph.D. in geomatics engineering from the University of Calgary. Aboelmagd Noureldin is a corss-appointment associate professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering at Queens's University and also an associate professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering at the Royal Military College of Canada. He Holds a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Calgary. Zainab Syed is a researcher in the Department of Geomatics Engineering at the University of Calgary, where she earned her M.Sc. in electrical and computer engineering and a Ph.D. in personal navigation

Superficial and Disappointing

In the preface, the authors bemoan the lack of a book unifying topics of interest to the MEMS navigation community which are often ignored in the "high accuracy" inertial navigation books. Unfortunately, this book fails to fill the gap.
Perhaps a title of "Superficial Introduction of Various Topics of Interest to the MEMS Navigation Community" would have been a more appropriate title. Perhaps I should have realised this when a mere 30 pages was devoted to particle filters when this topic alone covers whole textbooks.
Looking at the table of contents, it covers all the right topics - MEMS sensor errors, the navigation equations, advanced methods of multi-sensor integration, calibration and initial alignment. However, each chapter feels like an extended article from "GPS World" magazine - a nice introduction, but ultimately not useful; there is neither sufficient rigour for an academic text, nor sufficient practical details for an engineer working in the field.
Take one example: The navigation equations are stated in Chapter 5, but refers readers to standard texts in the field for solving them, as is required to create a real-world implementation. So what's the point of the chapter? I'm not sure.
My advice? Go to your local university and skim read it - it will take you barely two hours. Then you can start looking for something more meaty on how to actually attack the problems of interest in the book in the real (or academic) world.

Disappointing on first reading

Too thin for the cost ... physically and in reliance on references for content not covered (gaps in the narrative). If you know it, you don't need it. If you don't, there's not quite enough in this text (which reads like a PhD student's crib notes) to learn it. On the other hand, if you're an engineering manager in need of a vocabulary lesson ...
