Author Jason McDonald has been active on the Internet since 1994 and has taught SEO, AdWords, and Social Media since 2009 – online, at Stanford University Continuing Studies, at both AcademyX and the Bay Area Video Coalition in San Francisco, at workshops, and in corporate trainings across these United States. The only downside to this is that it's a little small in terms of actual book size, but that doesn't change much once you open it. McDonald has done it again with another great book. First of all, the cover is eye catching, though simple, and it is basically the exact reaction I had after I had the chance to get into this book. Facebook Marketing has been somewhat of a challenge for me as far as basics go, and I learned everything I needed to with this book. I think everything good starts with a solid foundation, and I was able to begin making that foundation with this book. Just like the others, it's laded with tips and tricks, and done in a beginner friendly way. McDonald is great at giving hard to learn or hard to understand topics a new face. It was much easier to know what people in tutorials were talking about, and I also learned enough so that the tutorials really aren't needed anymore. Every category is broken down into subcategories so that you know exactly what you’re reading about. It made it really easy for me to implement every step into my attempt at Facebook marketing, and as a regular Facebook goer this is much appreciated. Though I knew about Facebook marketing, I knew nothing about how it was done successfully and how it was done to help yourself more quickly during the process. Thanks to this book, though, I learned everything I needed to know, all questions got answered somewhere. Any business, big or small, can find great information within the book. Because of all of the things I discovered that I did not previously know about Facebook marketing, I would highly recommend. Buying this is far from a waste of money.

Useful One. As a social marketing worker i'd say this book is very helpful regarding on Facebook marketing. I came to know about this book from one of my friend who is a specialist on social sites. Afterwards i made my buy. Thanks to Author for an innovative creation. Well written and well described.

Helps You Build a Facebook Marketing Plan!

I've been studying marketing for over a decade and Internet Marketing in particular since Feb. 07 so I was pleasantly surprised to find a book from which I learned something! So many things seem to be a 'report' of part of another tome of authority, which is fine - if you haven't read the original several times! Not this book... er, rather Workbook!

It's small yet mighty.

It starts with a nice, basic foundation, so even if you are 'new' you can catch up quickly.

"It's Bigger on the Inside!" ~Dr. Who

These days, a book doesn't have to be just a book anymore. It can be a multimedia experience. Facebook Marketing Workbook by Jason McDonald makes effective use of this by referring you to web pages you can visit to make more happen with your 'todo's' and they are easy to input, which is a boon!

The format of the book - 8 1/2 x 11, portrait layout - is a bit unwieldy for me personally because I often read in bed.

In the general overview of social media and social media marketing, never once did Mr. McDonald mention Pinterest, even in passing. According to everything I've ever read or Internet Marketer I've ever learned from, Pinterest is bigger than Facebook, twitter and google put together and it grew larger, faster than any of them. Perhaps that is hype, I'm not sure. I work hard to 'triangulate' information though - learning from 3 or more original sources.

Mr. McDonald goes into Edgerank which was certainly part of the Facebook algorithm. I'm not really sure it factors in very much anymore. I'll keep learning, just to be sure!

I know for a fact that Facebook 'pads' their likes. I have several "Pages" on Facebook and sometimes I offer giveaways of space memorabilia. Because of one contest, I was counting the people following one page and there were about 80 whereas the number of "Likes" for that page was somewhere around 271 at the time. That was definitely an eye opener. I started watching and sure enough, some of the "Likes" were added two at a time when we only got one more person on the list. At that time, Facebook rewarded a page if it got "Likes" in a speedy fashion, by adding at least two per person. I never got into the millions so I don't know if it was ever more than two at a time per person. I think they may have stopped such a practice since my discovery.

That's for sure! The question for the marketer becomes 'How can I put that to use in my business?' and this Workbook seeks to answer.

Upon first run through, Mr. McDonald provides some really cool tools on websites referenced in the book. I expect to go through this book several times though I'll watch for changes because Facebook seems to update the way it works just about the time you start figuring it all out. At least we're all in the same boat when that happens. Perhaps Mr. McDonald will help us further by creating a Forum of some sort where readers of his books can talk with each other about Facebook and how things change.

About the Author

Deborah Rambo Sinn taught for two decades at colleges and universities and has performed classical concerts on four continents. She lived in Germany for five years where she also played keyboards for professional musical productions and coached opera singers and instrumentalists in music interpretation. Sinn currently resides in Washington State, where she is active as a private teacher, coach, and performer.

Highly recommend if you are trying to figure out the "correct" way to play classical music

I am actually going to require this for a graduate piano pedagogy class. It is very hard to teach musicality without destroying someone's individuality. This is technical yet not too difficult reading, if you are a classical musician and/or have some theory background. You must know how to read music well in order to comprehend. There are online examples--I probably won't use them in class, as I want them to think and demonstrate themselves.

I have a lot of adult students who have difficulty with things like "emote." This book explains HOW to emote--what you need to do at the piano.

Fantastic book, applies to more than just piano

Playing Beyond the Notes is an extremely informative yet interesting book: providing in-depth analysis of musical technique with clear delivery and entertaining voice. Dr. Rambo Sinn manages to discuss important ideas in a way that musicians of all ages and levels (even those who don't play the piano) can rapidly improve their ability and find deeper understanding of compositions extremely quickly. The accompanying musical examples (recorded by the author, an excellent and respected professional pianist) help cement the ideas presented, as you can hear exactly what the author means and keep the musical examples in your head as you read the book. Coming from the standpoint of someone who plays both the piano and a woodwind instrument, I found that it was great to apply concepts found within this guide to all music I learn: not just piano pieces. Playing Beyond the Notes has helped me understand and apply musicality and ideas of lyricism both on the small, detailed scale within specific pieces, but also in a much more general sense. A must read for musicians or music-lovers of all ages!

Remarkable --One of a Kind

Deborah Rambo Sinn's Book: Playing Beyond The Notes, is a unique and fascinating journey through the mind (and heart) and of the the pianist, performer and creative musician. There are few (if any) books which address the process of music-making-- illuminating the questions and problems of phrasing and interpretation. Not only does this book accomplish it beautifully, but the author approaches the topic in such a natural and accessible way. Playing Beyond the Notes, is not only for music lovers interested in the musical process of the pianist/performer, but is a "hands on" approach to be read by all professional musicians, music teachers and students who are in interested in learning and teaching the development of real musicianship.
...Quite simply.... a fabulous book.

About the Author
Donaldson Chair in Operations Management at the Curtis L. Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. He is also the Co-Director of the Juran Center for Leadership in Quality and has earned an appointment as a Distinguished Teaching Professor. He received the B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering with high distinction from the University of Minnesota, MSIE University of Minnesota and Ph.D. from Northwestern University. Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, he taught at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, and was an analyst for the office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense. Professor Schroeder has received research grants from the Ford Foundation, American Production and Inventory Control Society, Exxon Education Foundation and the National Science Foundation. He is a recipient of the Morse Award for outstanding teaching at the University of Minnesota.

Good Book, Bad Price

This is an excellent introductory text for operations management. I used it for many years before I retired and did the PowerPoint slides for several editions. That kind of a price for a paperback book, however, is ridiculous. It is no wonder that students buy one and then copy it for all their friends; or, find an international edition on-line for a fraction of the price. I have quit requiring a text in my classes and just have the library buy a couple of copies for reference.

Special Agent Pete Garrison suspects that the neo-Nazi Aryan Disciples have positioned one of their own in the White House, but his investigation is cut short by a blackmailer who knows of his affair with the First Lady and tries to frame him for murder. Though he is officially relieved of his duties, Garrison doesn't stop trying to prove his innocence and save the president's life. Relying on heavy dialogue, Petievich glosses over many details in an effort to keep the action hopping. Although the book's one plot thread is compelling, the story would have benefited from greater dimension.

Story of the Secret Service..

Russell Jordan's second presidential term will soon be coming to an end. Yet there is reason to believe a serious attempt on his life is in the works. Secret Service agent Pete Garrison, working almost singlehandedly, has limited time to foil the plot. A task made all the more difficult in that he is suspect number one in this nefarious crime.
The Sentinel by Gerald Petievich is a fast paced, action packed thriller that holds the reader's interest from beginning to end. An exciting read that does not disappoint. Highly recommended to fans of Washington based thrillers.

decent spy novel

I've seen the Michael Douglas movie a few times and thought I'd check out the book. It is very different from the movie, which made it seem like I had never heard the story. It started very slow and didn't feel it hit its stride until half-way. Despite that, the second half of the book was read in short order. Couldn't put it down.

The ending was abrupt versus the motion picture, but more realistic. I may consider more Petievich novels.

Fans of To Live and Die in L.A will be anxious to read Gerald Petievich's latest book. A great read, this book features a tightly woven plot centered in Washington,DC as a Secret Service agent fights against time to protect the President. Petievich kept leading me down paths before revealing that I'd made false assumptions. I read this book in one sitting -- that's how good it is.

On all sci-fi fans' must-read lists

This is a riveting book, full of action and intrigue. The most interesting aspect of it, though, is it read it after the first 3 books knowing that this novel was written first. The first three prequels set up the concepts in Patternmaster so perfectly, it is clear that Ms. Butler had a fully formed sociology and history in mind as she was writing this one. The novel itself is 40+ years old, but it stands the test of time and has all the best aspects of science fiction: fantastic but plausible characters and situations, philosophical and ethical conundrums, and engaging action.

One of the best sci fi authors ever

Octavia Butler was a brilliant humanistic writer, almost unknown to all but the most hardcore science fiction fans. Critically acclaimed, she had a unique and yet humanely idealistic view of the characters she created. A formidable talent, in today's world her writing is more relevant than it was even in her own day, nearly 40 years ago. I suspect that if she were writing now, she would be hugely popular, and if I didn't know that her books had been written decades ago, I wouldn't be able to tell. If you love science fiction, beautifully drawn characters, and complex and far-reaching lives, read anything you can find of hers; I can almost guarantee you will be richly rewarded!
