The content of this book looks a bit childish. If someone is learning English, this always means textbooks with childish contents. I thought the 'Business English Books' would be different, but it is almost the same. However, the exercises are not really helpful, the audio cd is good.

"Business Objectives" is targetted towards adult English as a Foreign Language learners who are currently learning with a trainer.
It is directed towards pre-intermediate/intermediate level learners, and supported by teacher's book, cassettes, pairwork material and lively videos, it is comprehensive and up-to-date.
Topics include: meeting people, telephoning, presentations, socialising, describing products and trends - each in easy-to-use units that can be used as on-going training, or stand alone modules. It makes great use of sketches and role plays, and references to actual companies and situations and for a trainer with little business experience it is easy to use.
Its partner "Business Opportunities" is directed towards higher level learners, and frankly there is not an English training organisation that I know who is not basing it's business English course around this book. A must!

The seller really should have made sure they said this was a book from the 70s. What good does this book do me? NONE! Christ almighty, it was SO irrelevant and instantly became paper for the burn barrel. LABEL BOOKS PROPERLY SELLERS!

When Words Collide

I ordered two copies of this used book on Amazon. I found one in the $35 range and one for one cent. I received the one cent book, which included a blank workbook, and it was a very good buy. However, the $35 book, which I sent to my son, only included the workbook, which had been used (answers were written in it). I contacted the seller, asking for the accompanying book, and the seller wrote back that he was selling it for $35 (I don't remember the exact price).

I am quite happy with the purchase I made for one cent, but I am not satisfied with the $30 purchase, and I will probably try to get a refund. The workbook is absolutely of no use without the accompanying grammar book, as one must read the chapter in order to complete the workbook questions. I would think that the seller could have just sent me the grammar book, as a price of around $70 seems exorbitant for a bundle that includes a used workbook.

About the Author
Walter A. Rosenbaum is professor emeritus of political science at the University of Florida and director emeritus of the University of Florida's Bob Graham Center for Public Service. He has also served as a staff member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and an adjunct professor in the School of Public Health, Tulane University Medical College. In addition to his teaching and research, he has been a consultant to the EPA, the U.S. Department of Energy, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the South Florida Ecosystem (Everglades) Restoration Project. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal for Environmental Studies and Sciences.

Best OBJ-C Review book

This book is great. I've only read a few chapters, but I've understood more in a few chapters than in the last two books I've read in Objective-C. For example, I finally understand what Typedef and @selector() are used for, compared to the other books that explain them in a convoluted way or just touch upon them briefly and then move on.

I've read the Big Nerd Ranch guide and Stephan Kochan one, but this is by far the easiest read. I love it. Keep pumping them out man!

A Fun, Readable, and Thorough Introduction to Soil Science, June 11, 2002

My "Science of Soils" class at Stanford University (Autumn '01) used "The Nature and Properties of Soils" as our main textbook. It is clearly written, easy to read, and has lots of helpful figures (including graphs, diagrams, drawings, and black-and-white and color photos). The chapters are well organized, so that you can find exactly what you need to know. The authors include hundreds of websites for those who want more information, and make the book more readable by starting off each chapter with a quote and a "big picture" statement.

 

"The Nature and Properties of Soils" has a good mix of theoretical and practical information. Wherever possible, the authors do sample calculations and describe applications for agriculture, ecology, and engineering. They thoroughly cover every major topic in soil science, as well as delving into some more specialized ones (for example, symptoms of micronutrient deficiencies in plants).

 

In conclusion, I've found this textbook to be both very information-rich and very readable, and highly recommend it. (The other day I caught my boyfriend, who's a materials engineer, reading it for fun... that's about the highest accolade any textbook can get!)

Dr. Raymond Weil, Professor, University of Maryland College Park

 

B.S. in Crop Science from Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI, 1970.
M.S. in Soil Science from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, 1973.
Ph.D. in Soil Ecology from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, 1977.

 

Elected Fellow in 2003 of both the Soil Science Society of America and the American Society of Agronomy.

 

Weil has been active in soil science research since 1972 and has made many contributions in the areas of nutrient cycling and management, environmental impact of soil management, and assessment of soil quality. His current research is focused on the assessment and improvement of soil quality and organic matter.  He has conducted research in several countries outside the United States, including Ethiopia, Chad, Brazil, Honduras, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Tanzania.  In addition to his teaching at the University of Maryland, he has conducted many training workshops for such agencies as the USDA, The World Bank, The Rodale Research Institute, and the International Food Policy Center.

 

Dr. Weil has authored or coauthored more than 100 scientific publications in soil science and related areas.

 

Dr. Nyle Brady

 

Dr. Brady has, since 1947, worked in education, research and research administration, focusing on both international and U.S. issues. He is past president of the SSSA and served six years as Editor-in-Chief of the SSSA Proceedings and is Emeritus Professor at Cornell University. He has served in leadership positions with Cornell University, the International Rice Research Institute, USAID, the United Nations Development Programme and the World Bank. He is recognized around the world as author and co-author of eleven editions of the world's most widely used soil science textbook, The Nature and Properties of Soils.

Shazam! Home run if you're looking for the authoritative text on soils

WOW! If I had known that this book existed earlier, I could have saved my time and money on all those other books on soil! This text is authoritative, clearly communicated, and covers the whole discipline. So many other books on soil and fertility reek of author's subjective opinion, lack data-driven foundation - many times passing on centuries long old wives tales rather than giving us something scientifically based. Really a great educational tool and reference!

Great content, but poor quality for the price

The text is extremely well written and provides an excellent introduction to soil science. I was, however, extremely disappointed in the physical quality of the text. I specifically chose the hardcover version because I prefer having high-quality texts and am willing to spend a little extra money to have it. Unfortunately, the only quality here is the cover itself. The pages are made of thin, cheap paper - you can see the text on the opposite page, and the only color images are the soil profile "plates". So while I would recommend the text, don't bother splurging on the hardcover because you'll be sorely disappointed.

I am familiar with the book since I was an undergraduate student. There is no doubt about the quality of the book itself. However, the book I received today was printed in very poor quality paper. Photos and figures are in colour, but the quality of paper ruin it.

Great adaptation

This is one of my favorite stories of all time. I tried to read the original to my infant but it was a bit too long and the size of the book was cumbersome.

I was so excited to find this adaptation. It is a great interpretation of the story - nice idea and well executed. They shortened the prose and added interactive items on each page to engage little ones. It was also a huge hit with my 3 year old nephew.

This book has a great message inside all the wonderful Dr. Suess rhymes. It's a message about snobbery, inadequacy, and conformity and the silliness of all that. I love it.

Love the story but . . .

The Sneetches has always been one of my favorite Dr. Seuss tales. These days you could say it's about diversity and inclusion and even Economics 101. But I can't figure out why they decided to relocate the same story to a beach setting and make in mildly interactive. The age group that likes to push balls and flip inserts is probably too young for the story line. The grandfather of the almost-three-year-old I gave it to liked it better than the kid. I'm afraid the same will hold true when I give it to my granddaughter who is 3. She might like to listen to me read the sing-songy verse, but the interactive features are somewhat simplistic for a child who already has scores of pop-up and interactive books. We'll see!
