This book is quick and easy to read, but packs solid information on every page. I wish I had had this book when I first became interested in commercial real estate. It even contains some vital concepts (secrets) the other gurus never taught me!

Peter is the most humble people that I have ever met. This book takes complicated jargon and turns it into language a 10 year old can understand. The complexity of Real Estate Investing is made simple through Peter's thorough writing. If you're hating your work hours, and want to get out of the rat race yourself, Commercial Real Estate FOR Beginners is the way to go.

I read this book earlier this year. This book will give the reader a good introduction to the world of commercial real estate. The book can be read in a day or so and will give you the basic understandings of commercial real estate. The book will teach you why commercial real estate is a great investment vehicle. The author will provide insight on how anyone looking to invest in commercial real estate can succeed. The book delves into the differences between commercial and residential, and financing your deals. The book is one of the better ones that I have read on this subject because of its clarity. The book is a great introduction to commercial real estate investing.

I have been a fan of Dru's articles on O'Reilly's ONLamp website for some time, so purchasing this book was a no-brainer for me. After just 30 minutes of thumbing through this book, my impression was that it would be a 'steal' at twice the price. After spending an entire evening reading and applying some of her 'hacks' this book has earned a spot of honor on my shelf right next to "Absolute BSD" by Michael W. Lucas.
The writing is straight-forward with a minumum of 'fluff', so an intermediate to experienced sysadmin can apply the tips and tricks offered in a very short period of time. If you want to save yourself hours/days/weeks of trolling 'PowerUser' forums, and archived mailing lists I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

excellent book!

excellent book, lots of great commands to get you used to the command line. Only downfall is Amazon is not packaging their books well anymore, I ordered $100 worth of books that were all thrown in a box and arrived all banged up! This is the 2nd order in a row, I will think twice about ordering again as I dont care for my books being all banged up! They used to use a cellofane wrapper to hold them all together but guess it was a cost cutting measure, sad to see damaged books that could be prevented with a little care!

Make this the FreeBSD book you buy after you've got a basic understanding of the operating system. In other words, this is a very useful "sidekick" BSD book. It's full of creative and practical hacks, and the price is right. Highly recommended.

This is the story of two young people from completely different worlds: Kennedy Odede from Kibera, the largest slum in Africa, and Jessica Posner from Denver, Colorado.� Kennedy foraged for food, lived on the street, and taught himself to read with old newspapers. When an American volunteer gave him the work of Mandela, Garvey, and King, teenaged Kennedy decided he was going to change his life and his community. He bought a soccer ball and started a youth empowerment group he called Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO). Then in 2007, Wesleyan undergraduate Jessica Posner spent a semester abroad in Kenya working with SHOFCO. Breaking all convention, she decided to live in Kibera with Kennedy, and they fell in love.Their connection persisted, and Jessica helped Kennedy to escape political violence and fulfill his lifelong dream of an education, at Wesleyan University.

The alchemy of their remarkable union has drawn the support of community members and celebrities alike—The Clintons, Mia Farrow, and Nicholas Kristof are among their fans—and their work has changed the lives of many of Kibera’s most vulnerable population: its girls. Jess and Kennedy founded Kibera’s first tuition-free school for girls, a large, bright blue building, which stands as a bastion of hope in what once felt like a hopeless place. But Jessica and Kennedy are just getting started—they have expanded their model to connect essential services like health care, clean water, and economic empowerment programs. They’ve opened an identical project in Mathare, Kenya’s second largest slum, and intend to expand their remarkably successful program for change.

The inspiring true story of how one couple’s love changed a community

Growing up homeless in Kibera, a slum in Kenya, Kennedy Odede received a book of Martin Luther King’s speeches that changed his life and inspired him to start Shining Hope for Communities, a local youth group. Several years later, irrepressible Wesleyan student Jessica Posner traveled to Kenya to work with SHOFCO. Soon, she and Kennedy fell in love. After returning to Wesleyan, Jessica discovered that Kennedy was threatened by political violence. She helped him escape by convincing Wesleyan’s admissions committee to offer him a full scholarship.

Once they’d finished college, Kennedy and Jessica returned to Kibera to found a school for hundreds of its most vulnerable residents: girls. They later opened a sister school in another slum, Mathare. With help from the community and donors around the world, they also provide water, health care, and entrepreneurial programs to tens of thousands in both places, and are determined to improve the lives of countless more.

Tender and inspiring, Find Me Unafraid vividly illustrates the power we all have to impact the world, and stands as a testament to the transformations made possible by true love.

About the Author

Kennedy Odede is one of Africa's best-known community organizers and social entrepreneurs. Kennedy is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, a member of the Clinton Global Initiative, and a trustee of Wesleyan University.

Jessica Posner is the cofounder of Shining Hope for Communities. She is a nationally recognized social entrepreneur and activist. She won the 2010 Do Something Award and was named "America's top world-changer 25 and under" live on VH1. Jessica has been recognized as one of Wesleyan University's Distinguished Alumni, and has received the prestigious Echoing Green Fellowship.

This story needs to be heard

This story needs to be heard. I closed the book cover left with an unrelenting desire to share this story with strangers and loved ones. Jess and Kennedy are two inspirations from different worlds and for totally different reasons. Jess left the comfort of her home in the US to live in the Kenya slums, fueled by a desire to do more in the world. While she is beyond bold, she is relate-able. Kennedy fought through hardship most of the readers on here will never endure, and became a role model in a community who needed one the most. This story teaches you about love (in a hopeless place), hardship, perseverance, and that anything is possible with mental strength. I recommend this for anyone looking or struggling to follow their dreams - big dreams.

Incredible story of two wonderful people from different worlds.

This book is a must-read. I have seldom (if ever) read a book that brought me to tears every few chapters. Kennedy's incredibly difficult life is a story in and of itself, but his ability to have hope in spite of all of the difficulties he faced is inspiring and uplifting. The flow of the book is marvelous as Kennedy and Jessica's stories are intertwined to come together into their wonderful dream. Facing a life of abject poverty in one of the largest slums in Kenya, Kennedy found faith in others that their lives could be changed. And when Jessica was added to the formula after a college semester abroad, they became the fantastic team that continues to move this wonderful organization forward. Block out some time to read this book, as it is very difficult to put down, as you wonder what else could happen to these two. Very well written. A delightful story in so many ways. Please read it!!

A Shining Beacon Of Hope in the Worst Possible Circumstances

I was so pleased to finally allow myself the time to read and digest the remarkable story of Jessica Posner and Kennedy Odede. Their love story crosses the barriers people often put between themselves, and in that sense it's a miracle but the REAL miracle lies in how Kennedy overcame abominable life circumstances and used his experience to set up SHOFCO. Shining Hope For Communities does incredible work providing necessary social services such as empowerment training and health care to thousands of slum dwellers in Nairobi, Kenya. The Kibera School For Girls shines as a beacon of hope, drawing out the potential of young girls to change their life circumstances as well as to educate the surrounding community on the value of educating girls. May the world's 130,000,000 girls still NOT in school today find the good fortune of receiving such a quality education in such a supportive environment. Bravo, SHOFCO!

This was not as "spiritual" as I had expected.

There were some entries that were very thought provoking such as Terry Eagleton's "The Nature of Evil" and David Novak's "The Man-made Messiah". The main problem for me was that there were too few that were that good.

I ordered this book as text for a class, not knowing what to expect. Although the course focuses on spirituality rather than structured religion, many of this book's writings stretch to fit into (even secular) concepts of spirituality. The editor's choices strike me as somewhat random...

Behind the innocent facades of Victorian fairy tales were intense debates about the nature of childhood and the motives of the male and female authors of the tales. These issues as well as the works of seven British children's authors who published from 1850 to 1870, including Lewis Carroll and Christina Rossetti, are treated here by Knoepflmacher (English and ancient and modern literature, Princeton Univ.; Forbidden Journeys: Fairy Tales and Fantasies by Victorian Women Writers, LJ 4/15/92). The author believes that male writers of the time idealized childhood, whereas female writers were more grounded in actuality and that both camps were in constant conflict. In the engagingly written Ventures into Childland, U. C. Knoepflmacher illuminates this debate. Offering brilliant rereadings of classics from the "Golden Age of Children's Literature" as well as literature commonly considered "grown-up", Knoepflmacher probes deeply into the relations between adults and children, adults and their own childhood selves, and between the lives of beloved Victorian authors and their "children's tales".

As Knoepflmacher shows, male and female constructions of childhood in these fairy tales differed radically. Male writers -- John Ruskin, William Makepeace Thackeray, George MacDonald, and Lewis Carroll -- often displayed an uneasy relation to adult gender roles. By privileging a special girl reader, they attempted to blur sexual differences and sentimentalize and arrested childhood. Female authors, on the other hand -- Jean Ingelow, Christina Rossetti, and Juliana Ewing -- tried to wrest fairy tales away from the male authors who had appropriated the genre. These women's tales relate fables of growth that are more grounded in actuality than the men's, and that more often allow their girl characters to mature.

These disputes are poignant at a time when our inherited notion of childhood as a precious preserve seems seriously threatened. Ventures into Childland will delight and instruct all readers of children's classics, and will be essential reading for students of Victorian culture and gender studies.
